Studio Recording - It's a Small World
Tuesday, February 22, 2011
Posted @ 11:48 PM

It's really great to laugh out loud. Like madly. It kills the sleep bug and hypes me up!
Recording of It's a Small World was indeed hilarious...! Too bad duration and some stuff are not allowed on air.

----------------------------------------------
Local audience readily accepts the (similar) content on foreign shows but not on ours.
Why?

I am (and have) always (been) pondering...

This is the case for a lot of our programmes.

Voicing out an honest an objective opinion, sometimes censorship department are stringent in censoring some stuff... because that's what if allowed on air, audience complains, and if it's censored, audience complains too.
So, what do you (really) want?

Star Awards 2011 Nominees!
Monday, February 7, 2011
Posted @ 7:40 PM

The annual star-studded event 红星大奖 is coming soon again!
And the nomination list is out today!

I shall start with my favourite awards first. =x
in RED is 1st choice
in BLUE is 2nd choice
in Green is 3rd choice

Best Variety Programme 最佳综艺节目:

Dream Potter [梦.窑匠]
Food Source [食在好源头]
Gate Keepers [小兵迎大将]
Going Home [回家走走]
Love on A Plate [名厨出走记]

This 5 variety programes are really a tough fight man... OH! Suddenly realised that Black Rose is not inside! That show is so funny!! But anyway... this one it is either Love on a Plate or Food Source... But I shall root for Love on a Plate!

Best Variety Show Host 最佳综艺主持人:

Bryan Wong 王禄江 [Home Decor Survivor 4 摆家乐4]
Guo Liang 郭亮 [Black Rose 爆料黑玫瑰]
Kym Ng 鐘琴 [Love on A Plate 名厨出走记]
Michelle Chong 庄米雪 [Black Rose 爆料黑玫瑰]
Pornsak [Food Source 食在好源头]

HA! This one! Mostly are whom I had expected to be nominated. You see. Michelle is being nominated in this category, it makes her in just an awkward situation like Dennis Chew last year. Their nomination is not for HOSTING. It's for comedy performance, no hosting involved! I would rather categorise them under Best Comedy Performer. And for Guo Liang... I didn't realise that he was being nominated for Black Rose also... which I feel, will put him in an infavourable position just like Michelle.
This award should be between Kym and Pornsak.
Of course I'm rooting for Kym! :D

Renci Charity Show [仁心慈爱照万千2010]

Breakout [破天网]
New Beginnings [红白囍事]
The Family Court [走进走出]
Unriddle [最火搭档]
With You [我在你左右]

Chen Li Ping 陈莉萍 [Unriddle 最火搭档]

This award has definitely got to go to Rui En 瑞恩 already please. She should have won it like 4 years ago in 破茧而出! I thought she would have been nominated for her role in Unriddle though... but she was very good in With You 我在你左右 too.

Xiang Yun 向云 [Unriddle 最火搭档]

Best Theme Song 最佳主题曲:

The Best Things in Life (五福到) – 知足/苏智诚
The Illusionist [魔幻视界] – 变化/何维建
With You [我在你左右] – 感.受/黄智仁

I feel it's Breakout [破天网] – 网/张信哲 vs The Illusionist [魔幻视界] – 变化/何维建.
I'm more positive about the latter 'cos the lyrics and music complements the story better.

Leong Lye Lin 梁来玲 [The Best Things in Life 五福到]
Loo Yin Kam 卢燕金 [The Family Court 走进走出]
Wong Foong Hwee 黄芬菲 [Unriddle 最火搭档]

It's A Great Great World
Tuesday, February 1, 2011
Posted @ 4:05 PM

Yay gonna go watch It's A Great Great World later on!

Will be back to update! :D

Oh and P.S: I've put back the tagboard thing!

Updated on 4 Feb

Usually movies with lots of promotions will push up your expectation of it, and most of the time it will fail you, but It's a Great Great world is one that didn't disappoint me at all!

The story flows very well from one (era) to another (era), and I feel that the use of photos to relate to each story of the past of Great World is a nice idea because photos was the only way to retain the memories in the past, and some of the photos were the original ones.

And I must applaud for the efforts of the crew and director - Kelvin Tong for putting up the movie set as similar as possible of the original Great World because the only way they could refer to the looks of it was only through (black and white) photos, and colour-wise, they had the reference of the elders who had been there before.
Papa had thought some of those were original stuff!

The Ghost Train is one that is really able to function electronically and not pulled by the crew!

And Kelvin Tong being the expert of filming horror films/movies, I was highly anticipated during the Ghost Train scene and of course it was superbly done especially at the end part of the Ghost Train ride. It was a LOL scene but rather scary too! HAHAHA...!!
----------------------------------------------------------

Every story had the humour that belongs to it, and also parts which will move your heart...

Although I don't belong to the generation that had grew up together with the place - Great World, but I could also feel the emotional ties of the generation with Great World. Maybe that's because I always immerse myself when I watch a movie/show that could take me along with their story. I enjoy being engrossed in a story.

What's more is that there are 4 stories in this movie.
The 1950's - Hui Ge,

Hui Ge is really funny himself... his gong-gong and simple character of wanting to take photos with big stars to make his mum happy... in the end. HAHAHA it's really hilarious how they manage it in the end. But I thought his story was rather short compared to the rest.

1960's - Joanne Peh and Zhang Zhen Huan,

Ghost Train is a big selling point 'cos it was the scene that made the whole theatre laughed LOUD! And the Teochew rhyme of Ah Nan is hilarious too!

But Zhang Zhen Huan's Teochew is a pain to listen to. HAHA

Chew Chor Meng's Teochew rhyme for his lok lok is like another laughing point added!

1960's - 1970's - Xiang Yun and Huang Wen Yong,

This story's focus was on Xiang Yun waiting for a promise to be realised from a man 10 years ago... Then when this man appears... everyone in the cinema went "whoa...~" HAHAHA...!!

It was definitely a right choice to make her the focus of this story because her acting is undoubtedly fantastic. You feel for her.
And the songs are catchy~ It's still ringing in my head every now and then, especially with the promos on TV on and off. Ha!

1940's - Kym, Bryan, Chen Shu Cheng and Marcus Chin.

This story is unique in its own way because it was where the most dialects were used! Teochew, Cantonese, Hainanese... Wa... and it was hilarious at the conversation between Bryan & Zhang Yao Dong with Marcus Chin, it's the Hainanese vs Cantonese battle. HAHAHA...!!

And I'm amazed at the fluency of Kym in Teochew and Cantonese...!

I feel that this story was one which everyone spoke rather accurate dialects!

And it starts off from the modern era - 21st century, with Chew Chor Meng relating these stories. The thought of how the effects were created (split into 4-screen and dissolve from one to another then change to another scene after the 4 screens were dissolved) when Olivia was driving to go look for him went through my head while I was watching... haha!

The reason which he explained why Great World was closed down... was the same as what Papa said. And you couldn't help but feel... that some changes are unavoidable, and these changes... are kinda sad.

The movie would leave you with a smile at the end.

And and! If they are thinking if It's a Great Great World 2 is possible, I would like to believe so because each of the stories could have a further development... especially the last one, where the Japanese came... then the relation of the generations could go in chronological order as the characters grew older... how they could link with the characters in the 1960s and 1970s...

It's a Great Great movie! Mummy and Papa enjoyed it very much too!
Relatives were going to watch today too! Shall ask how they felt about it tomorrow. :D

As far as I know... It's all sold out for today at Cathay AMK Hub! And almost all sold out at GV Vivo... as well as almost full house for the next few days at quite a no. of cinemas! Woo! Congrats!

This movie is a must-watch for families in this happy occasion!

Oh and if you are wondering if you could try on those rides in the movie, you can visit one which they set up at Hougang! It's functional! I think it's beside Hougang mrt or something? It's like a funfair.
